Attitude is Everything

Attitude is Everything improves Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music by working in partnership with audiences, artists and the music industry to implement a Charter of Best Practice across the UK.

Attitude is Everything began as a pilot project in September 2000 as a response to Deaf and disabled people’s desire for fair treatment at music venues, clubs and festivals. They sought to challenge the music industry’s lack of awareness of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and its obligations. On the 1st April 2008 Attitude is Everything became its own registered charity – a change process was generously funded by the Arts Council England.

Their triumphs include working with Festival Republic, signing the majority of Academy Music Group’s venues to the Attitude is Everything Charter of Best Practice and working with Channelfly to improve access at The Great Escape.

The Charter has proven essential to the independence and welfare of Deaf and disabled people at live venues, requiring promoters to publicly show their commitment to improving disabled access.

AiE also run a regular club night – Club Attitude – held in fully accessible venues. The gigs feature a mixture of live performers (both disabled and non-disabled) demonstrating to the industry how to successfully provide a fully accessible club night, occasionally including Sign Language Interpreters and Audio Description. The nights have attracted guest slots from artists including Mystery Jets, Foals, Art Brut and DJ sets from Alan McGee, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. and DJ Void.
