A Proper Approach Delivers: Proper Music Group To Increase Warehouse Capacity Fivefold With New Site
- UK’s third largest distributor to relocate to brand new warehouse
- Fulfilment capacity to quadruple to meet increased demand
- Office functions to move to Surrey Quays
Wednesday 4th May: – Proper Music Group is set to expand, moving warehouse operations to a brand new site which increases capacity fivefold. As well as a huge boost in storage space, the new 32,304 sq ft site at Graviton Park, Belvedere will quadruple pick and pack capability, meaning not just an increase in range and volume for the UK’s 3rd largest music distributor, but also in rate of fulfilment.
The build is earmarked for completion in July, with the move of over 5 million CDs and vinyl expected to begin in September, ahead of a full opening in January 2017.
The move will see the company permanently bid farewell to its existing Sydenham HQ, with office functions also set to move to a new building in Surrey Quays in September. The Sydenham site will remain under Proper ownership meanwhile, with new tenants being sought.
The expansion follows the company’s record financials for 2014/15, which saw profit increase 250% to £272K as turnover grew to £21.6m. While the company has been expanding its roster via clients like Concorde Music Group and increasingly acting as European central hub for existing ones, the move proves the continued value of physical distribution. This was reflected in the BPI’s latest market report, for March 2016, which showed CDs alone still accounting for an astonishing 66.5% of all album sales.
Said Drew Hill, Managing Director of Proper Music Group: “The relocation is an exciting step as our distribution business continues to expand, considerably increasing capacity and enabling us to service orders faster. We have worked hard to find sites that are well placed for our workforce and well served by public transport in order to make the move as easy as possible“.
